Purpose and Summary

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (the Buckley Amendment) requires certain procedures to ensure the confidentiality of students' records, to provide rights of inspection, and to facilitate challenges of record information. University policy with regard to the act is available online at the Office of the Registrar website.

Scope

FERPA is the federal law that governs the rights of students and institutional responsibilities with respect to student records.

Compliance and Responsibilities

Questions regarding the act may be referred to the Dean of Students Office or the Office of the Registrar.
